Kris Shah
Vice President, Baylis Medical Inc.
Title: Medical Device Development—From Concept to Standard of
Care
Mr. Shah obtained his bachelor’s degree in Electrical
Engineering from the University of Waterloo and received his Professional
Engineering designation three years later in 1989. Following his
graduation, he worked at Bell Northern Research and then made the move to
Nortel in Toronto as a Product Manager.
In 1990, he joined Baylis Medical as a founding partner. He has
been involved in all aspects of the Medical Device industry including sales and
marketing. Currently, he manages all technical aspects of Baylis Medical
including R&D, manufacturing, regulatory, IP, quality and general
management.
Raphael Ronen
Commercialization Manager, The Innovations Group, U of

Title: Commercialization of Medical Devices
Raphael graduated from Systems Design class
of 2003, then completed an MSc. in Medical Biophysics at the University of
Western Ontario. After completing his education, he managed
commercialization and business development activities involving imaging
and medical device technologies out of the Robarts Research
Institute. Within this role, Raphael was involved in assessing new
technologies, then patenting and licensing the most promising of those
technologies. In May of 2007, Raphael joined The Innovations Group, at U
of T, where he is engaged in further commercializing technology, and is in
the process of assisting in the creation of several start-up companies.
